The Oregon Department of Education partnered with WestEd to identify high-quality supplemental instructional materials that support the implementation of Oregon’s Social Science Standards. Through a rigorous three-phase vetting process, the Oregon Department of Education and WestEd identified open educational resources that align with the concepts and themes of the standards.
The Oregon Department of Education, WestEd and subject matter experts vetted all externally developed materials for final review and curation.
Materials were reviewed for alignment with Oregon’s Social Science Standards and basic permission for use. If materials did not pass this phase, they were not reviewed further.
Materials were reviewed against the criteria of culturally responsive and inclusive practices, the promotion of equity and justice, and historical knowledge and global awareness.
The materials recommended for inclusion reflect all three criteria and at least one element of transformative social and emotional learning, critical thinking and inquiry-driven learning.
The materials were reviewed against baseline accessibility criteria.
If remediation was necessary, WestEd reviewed the source terms of use to ensure that modification of the material was permissible and sought permission as required.
Attributions and limitations for use are noted for each material.
